Electronics are a key component of modern life, from smartphones to laptops to jet engines to nuclear power plants. They are almost universally important to modern life, both for positive and negative effects. For good reasons, the economic, financial, and political benefits of modern technology that advances efficiency, or that increases consumer welfare is a worthy goal.
On the other hand, modern technology can also harm many people: the increase in environmental pollution of electricity, the mass production of dangerous toys, the lack of new food sources, etc. We are confronted with these issues through \”spreading the benefits of modern life while at the same time minimizing the negative ones.\” It is a struggle, of course, since individual economic systems and goals are in flux and change.
